How To

About Us
Red Dirt Boxer Rescue is all about saving Boxers and place them in loving homes that understand the needs of the breed.
Boxers deserver our love and attention, appropriate exercise, a sturdy fenced area to play and a safe place inside the home each night to sleep.
While in the our rescue each Boxer is examined by one of our hand picked licensed veterinarians, spayed or neutered, heartworm tested, given vaccinations, and any other medical attention needed. They are fed, trained, and loved in family based foster homes until we find the right human companion or family for them. Our Boxers consider themselves members of the family and need to be treated as such after adoption. They give back so much in return, unconditional love, loyalty, and years of laughter.
Red Dirt Boxer Rescue is...
Teresa Adkins

Teresa is Founder, President and the backbone of Red Dirt Boxer Rescue. Red Dirt has been her vision for many years and in August of 2007 her vision became reality. With hard work, determination and three of the best volunteers, Nancy, Elisha and Kelly, willing to go above and beyond, she sees this rescue helping boxers for years to come.
It all began eight years ago when Teresa was driving down a country road and found a three month old female boxer puppy. She went above and beyond trying to find this puppy's owner. Driving back to the only gas station in a 10 mile radius everyday for two weeks. Placing signs and knocking on all the neighbors doors. This tiny little wiggly boxer girl, now named Lady, is where Teresa's love for boxers began. She loved her personality and all the boxers quirks and antics that Lady had. Teresa's good friend Jan Cates, with Heartland Great Dane Rescue , asked Teresa to foster Great Danes. This made Teresa think there must be boxers out there that need help too.
Teresa and her husband, Kevin have fostered and rehabilitated over one hundred boxers in the past three years and have been instrumental in saving many more boxers throughout Oklahoma. Maggie Mae, a 10 year old white female, was their first foster "flunky" and joined the family in 2005. Bacardi and Storm followed in 2006.
Teresa is the proud mother to Lady, Maggie Mae, Harley, Bacardi, Storm, the Min-Pin, Gator. There are always a few fosters running around the house.

Nancy Derusha

Teresa would laugh and say that she "begged" Nancy to help with boxer rescue but Nancy can tell you that three years ago when she laid eyes on Layla, she knew that this is what she was meant to do.
Layla was Nancy's first boxer and she was a rescue that came from Teresa. Nancy's first foster was Bruiser and he left his footprints on Nancy's heart. Every since Bruiser, Nancy has had a special way with the "special needs" boxers.
When Bruiser first came to Nancy he was scared, withdrawn and shook in fear of everything. It took Nancy four months to earn his trust enough to be able to touch him. It would take Nancy hours just to take him outside to potty, as he would stand and shake in fear, not wanting to move. Finally when he rehabilitated he would play with Nancy's granddaughter who was just a toddler at the time. He finally got to go to his new home and it was a bittersweet moment for Nancy. She had put her all into making this boxer boy all better and now he was able to go be a normal boxer and have a good life like he always deserved. Nancy has fostered many special needs boxers and they all come out with a remarkable turn around. If it is Demo to separation anxiety, Nancy can fix it!
Nancy is the proud mom to Layla, Nellie, Mel, Coda Ray, Patches, Screech and there are always fosters in her house.
Nancy's RDBR duties consist of:
- Vice President/Co-Founder
- Management Committee
- Adoption Committee
- Fundraiser Committee

Doug Rice

Treasurer@RedDirtBoxerRescue.com
Doug became involved with boxer rescue in 2005 when he and his wife Peggy adopted a boxer named Jager from Nancy. Not long after adopting Jager they began volunteering at adoption events and fundraisers.
Doug already had a beautiful boxer girl named Angel but they also wanted to foster a boxer in need. With Jager being such a sensitive guy they thought it would be best to foster puppies or smaller boxers. Doug and Peggy have fostered many boxer puppies in there home and they always come out of their home flourishing.
Doug and Peggy are the proud parents of Angel, Jager and welcomed a bouncing baby girl (a two-legger) in November of 2007.
Doug's RDBR duties consist of:

Kelly Bernardy

Kelly's involvement with boxer rescue began in the fall of 2006 when she signed up to become a volunteer with a local boxer rescue organization.
Kelly already had a boxer named Gracie that came from a BYB, yes at the time Kelly knew nothing about Boxer Rescue and even what BYB's were. With research, time and effort she became an active and knowledgeable member of the boxer rescue community. In March of 2007 Toby came into her life as a foster boxer. Kelly bonded with Toby and nursed him back to health. Kelly graduated to "foster flunky" along with Teresa and Nancy. Toby was home and he wasn't going anywhere. Kelly is, among other things, the Foster Home Coordinator and when RDBR took in 5 boxers from a puppy mill, Kelly sprung into action and found foster homes for all 5 boxers. Kelly took the sickest boxer girl home with her and has nursed her back to health.
Kelly is the proud mom to Gracie, Toby, and Aunt to Bentley and always has a foster or two.
Kelly's RDBR duties consist of:- Webmaster/Co-Founder
- Volunteer/Foster Home Coordinator
- Management Committee
- Adoption Committee
- Shelter Committee
- Fundraiser Committee
- PR Committee
